Embracing the Good Future: Technology, Education, AI and the Future of Learning Recorded and live-streamed at the SHARJAH INTERNATIONAL SUMMIT ON IMPROVEMENT IN EDUCATION in the UAE Feb. 23, 2025
In this thought-provoking and fast-moving talk, recorded in super-wide, cinema-scope format (watch for a release of some very special footage soon:) I discuss the challenges and potentials of the next decade, emphasizing the importance of looking at #thegoodfuture as defined by what I call the 4Ps: people, planet, purpose and prosperity. I talk about the impact of general purpose and exponential technologies such as #artificialintelligence and VR / virtual environments on education, and on society at large. I highlight the coming transformation from routine tasks to more human-only work, and underscore the need for a balanced approach that integrates STEM with human-centric skills like empathy, creativity, and ethical reasoning (STEM vs HECI), If you work like a robot, a robot will take your job. If you learn like a robot, you will end up working for them. The end of routine is not the end of work. The more connected we become, the more we have to protect what makes us human. Machines ≠ Humans. Algorithms ≠ Organisms.
